A huge thanks to everyone who came along in 2025 and helped with our work parties. We really do appreciate the time and effort that you gave to come and help with maintaining and hopefully improving, Pipe Green!

Here is a summary of what was achieved:

• Sunday 15th June — installed a hazel revetment along a short section of Leomansley brook, in order to stabilise the bank and allow the vegetation to grow back.
• Saturday 28th June — removed some patches of willow herb, which if left untouched, will dominate and shade out other vegetation.
• Sunday 13th July — more willow herb removal. There is always some to pull out!
• Saturday 2nd August — cut down the scrubby hawthorn bushes and briar that was starting to encroach on to the meadow.
• Sunday 17th August — cleared some bramble that was growing over the stock fence and onto the Green, as well as removing willow herb.
• Sunday 7th September — removed vegetation from a section of Leomansley brook, to improve it's flow.
• Sunday 28th September — cut back the two large bramble bushes near the Maple Hayes fence.

Talk with Lichfield Wildlife Group on Tuesday 2nd April 2024 Wade Street Church, Lichfield at 19.45

Jane Arnold from the Pipe Green Trust will be giving a talk about the wildlife of Pipe Green

This is part of the City Nature Challenge organised by the Lichfield Wildlife Group. We are trying to record as many plants, birds, invertebrates, etc. as possible. All you need is the iNaturalist app on your phone and wildlife experts will be available on the day to help you with your recording. So why not come along for some fun and help us find out what species call Pipe Green home!

It is essential that we have a number of work parties over the summer in order to maintain the meadowland habitat. Everybody is welcome!

The dates for the work parties are:

Sunday 7th August — 9:30-11:00 — Meet on the green at the football field gate. We will remove some of the willowherb from the wet side of the Green. Cutting implements will be provided, but please bring gloves and wear sturdy clothing and footwear.

Further work parties:

• Sunday 10th July — 9:30-11:00 — Meet on the Abnall's Lane part of the Green. We will clear creeping thistle, nettle and dock
• Thursday 21st July — 9:30-11:00 — Remove nettle and bramble from the path by the back gate.
• Wednesday 17th August — 9:30-11:00 — details nearer the time.
• Sunday 4th September — 9:30-11:00 — details nearer the time.
• Wednesday 21st September — 9:30-11:00 — details nearer the time.

With the easing of lockdown restrictions we have decided to hold some work parties on the following dates:

• Wednesday 25th August — 9:30—11:30 — willowherb and bramble clearing.
• Sunday 5th September — 9:30—11:30 — willowherb and bramble clearing.
• Wednesday 17th November — 9.30—11.30 — stream clearing.
• Wednesday 24th November — 9.30—11.30 — stream clearing.

Walk on Pipe Green with Lichfield Wildlife Group.

Jane Arnold of the Pipe Green Trust will be leading a walk on Pipe Green. Spring is well under way and we hope to see lots of activity from the plants, birds, insects and other wildlife that call this unique place home.
