Work party - Sun 3rd Jun 2018 10:00-12:00

by Jane Arnold - Posted: 26-May-2018

We will be having a work party on Sunday 3rd June at 10.00 and will be tackling some of the marsh thistle that is spreading into the grazing area of the Green, near the football field gates. This involves cutting/digging the thistle near the base of the stem. The best tool to use is either a spade, dutch hoe or anything that has an edge on it. Some equipment will be provided, but if you have a sharp(ish) edged tool, then it would be useful if you could bring it along.

cows grazing

The work party will concentrate on pulling the creeping thistle and cutting some nettle. These weeds need to be kept under control, which will help the wildflowers thrive. Some cutting tools are available, but please bring along any scythes or equivalent. We will also be removing some of the marsh thistle that is growing in the meadowland area of the Green. A dutch hoe is very good for doing this. Gloves are definitely needed!!

Please meet on the Green. All welcome!

You are welcome to come to our annual “Beating the Bounds” event on Sunday May 14th. We will be on the Green from 11.00 until 3.30, where you can find out more about the work that we do. We will be “Beating the Bounds” at 11:00 but please note that if you want to walk on the wet side of the Green then waterproof boots are essential. The walk will take about 30 minutes (this is at a slow pace, with a lot of stopping to look at things of interest) and starts from the marquee, that will be on the Green - you won't be able to miss it! Refreshments will be served afterwards, where you can talk to Trust members. We will also have a self-guided family trail, which describes some of the fascinating things that can be found on the Green. Alternatively, you can just pop into the marquee and say hello. Hope to see you there!

Please meet on the Green. All welcome!
